Curb to Compost Program

A USDA subsidized partnership under the Composting and Food Waste Reduction Cooperative Agreements (CFWR) for Teton County ISWR (Integrated Solid Waste and Recycling) to collaborate with the Riverwind Foundation for expanding commercial & residential composting in the county.

Why is this initiative important:

In Teton County 12% (3,951 tons) of all landfill waste annually is organic waste that could be composted using the food processing machine and composting process at the county trash transfer station.

This wasted food accounts for more than 50% of greenhouse gas emissions from landfills, as organic material is digested anaerobically in this environment, emitting large quantities of methane. (see more information from the EPA here)

Diverting this food waste from landfills would help to work towards accomplishing Teton County's goal of 60% landfill diversion by 2030 (Road to Zero Waste JH).
